As you can see, I have decided to change up the format of this monthly recap post. Let's be honest, this hasn't been a console catch-up in a while. Not for lack of trying, mind you.

Instead, I figured I might use this post to give recaps on games I have been playing (when I get the chance to), as well as go through any that I may have completed outside the A to Z challenge - this would include anything from the A to Z challenge, as well as anything I might have picked up with my brothers, daughter or wife.

At the same time, I will include whether I intend to continue them or why I am dropping them. I am unfortunately at a stage in my life where I cannot stick to a game that I cannot engage with. This does not apply to the Challenge games, as that would go against my rule. (Only exceptions would be if the game itself cannot run or be played)

Name: Prodeus

I had been playing this game on and off with one of my brothers as part of our weekly bro night. If both brothers couldn't come online, we'd sometimes get back on to this one to continue the co-op campaign.

One thing I will immediately say is this: you could see the inspiration of this game was taken from Quake and Doom. Why? Well, the level layouts gave a strong Quake feel, and the enemies and weapons were heavily inspired by Doom. In fact, my brother often called them by their Doom counterpart names.

Now this wasn't a bad thing. It wasn't a rip-off, and the game was still fun to play. It was fast, smooth, and the combat was enjoyable. One personal problem, however, was that because we took so long between sessions, I had no clue what was going on anymore. But that was ok. The killing was good.

One thing that we didn't like was the final stage. It felt rather 'meh' for a final level, and it all ended with a 'To Be Continued' ending, which was rather off-putting. But at least we do have user levels we can pick up and play. Also, a DLC is supposedly coming out soon.

When I used to work from home, I used to enjoy keeping a city management style game running on my personal PC. I would have it running in the background while I worked and then switch to it to make necessary changes/responses. Most often, the game would be Kingdoms Reborn, but I did attempt to do the same with Frostpunk. I soon learnt that you do NOT leave Frostpunk unattended.

I cannot count the number of times I had to restart because of my inattentiveness. Because of this, I had avoided the game for a time. But I managed to get back to it, and while there were some restarts along the way, I managed to get a stable civilisation.

This time around, my focus on the management was so strong that I didn't even realise I was in the end stages when they came. I mean, in hindsight, I should have noticed that it was, but I was obsessing on making sure all the resources were gathered, and that enough heat was distributed that I was only vaguely following the story.

It's a tough game, but once you break through the ice, it feels like a massive accomplishment.

When I do get a moment on the PlayStation for myself, I have put some time into playing Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. I had the original game back on the Wii. The only reason I had never completed it then was because something shiny came along, and I never got back to it.

Because I had not played a lot of the game, I did not remember much of it. I could remember how the mechanics worked, but level and story-wise, I don't even think I had gone very far.

I have been looking for a good platformer to scratch that itch. It's been a long while since I played one. I think the last one I played was Kao the Kangaroo, and while it was fun, it felt a lot like a watered-down Crash Bandicoot game.

Epic Mickey, at least, is enjoyable in the exploration of its small areas and even its choices. Sometimes choosing whether you dissolve or reinforce the paint could impact the story later on. I am well aware that some choices will later decide if I have a good or bad ending.

This is another game which I have on standby with my brothers. With one, I would play Prodeus (or Arc Raiders) and the other I would play this game.

Just like with Prodeus, it has taken us so long to finish this game that I barely remember what we're doing anymore. But at least we do enjoy the sneaking and killing. And we do tend to complete a level every session that we put into it.

However, our one main issue is the combat itself. In co-op, combat has been completely removed. In single player, you could parry attacks and kill your attacker (assuming you're not outnumbered), but in co-op, you are dead the moment they see you. (Assuming you don't manage to get away in time).

One other thing which I don't like is how sometimes the game forces your hand. In the later levels, because of the armour and types of enemies, you are mostly forced to avoid stealth kills - simply because you CANNOT kill them. Because of this, it can get quite frustrating. In fact, we had to pause our session before we completed the stage because it was getting late and we were getting frustrated. It's going to be fun getting back to it in a month or two...

Name: Yakuza Kiwami (Challenge Title)

This is my current challenge game entry.

I have been making steady progress in it. I did, however, have a minor setback when I lost my save. Although I was only in Chapter 4, a lot was still lost simply because of the time invested in completing the side content - and there is A LOT!

I am now back on track. I have reached Chapter 4 again, and I have completed the majority of the side content (mainly sub-stories) available in that chapter. There are some which I have yet to find, and if I can confirm that they will not be locked out if I move on, I will happily proceed with the story until I am roaming around the city again.

One thing is for sure: by the time I do proceed with the story, I am going to be heavily overpowered by some of the enemies. At this point, most fights end with me unleashing a heat attack at the very start of the combat, and it's an instant fight over.

I'm happy to close off here for February.

I know I am changing things up, but honestly, I prefer to do things like this rather than to have to go on hiatus simply because I don't have anything to write about. I enjoy writing. It gives me a sense of peace. And I do it for myself, not to chase viewers and numbers. But it doesn't mean I don't mind sharing what is going on.

By the end of March, I am looking forward to completing at least Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and having gone through a good chunk of Yakuza Kiwami. I really need to stop getting distracted by all the side content...
